Heatmaps
Click heatmaps overlay every click from matching sessions onto a snapshot of the page, clustered into ranked elements so you can see, in order, what visitors interact with most — and what they click that isn't actually clickable, which is a strong dead-click signal.
The ranked element list beside the overlay is usually more useful than the colours: it gives you an actual ordering, where a heat blob only tells you "somewhere around here".
A hot spot on something non-interactive is a design bug, not a curiosity. People click what looks clickable — if they're clicking your hero image expecting it to be a link, make it one.
