Short answer: paste the DeepSync script into Squarespace's code injection setting, in the header field, and save. Code injection is available on some Squarespace plans and not others, so check yours. The script then loads on every page of your live site.

Install

The snippet is a single tag (install on any website):

<script async src="YOUR_LOADER_URL"></script>
  1. Create a free DeepSync project for your domain and copy the snippet.
  2. In Squarespace, open your site's settings and find Code Injection, usually under the advanced or developer tools section.
  3. Paste the snippet into the Header field.
  4. Save.

Header code injection applies to every page. Code added to a single page's settings applies only to that page.

Code injection is a premium feature on Squarespace and is not included in every plan. Menu names also change between Squarespace versions. Confirm both in Squarespace's help pages.

Verify

  1. Open your live site in a normal browser window, logged out of Squarespace if possible.
  2. Browse two or three pages.
  3. Open Sessions in DeepSync.

If nothing appears:

  • Consent. Projects default to consent-required mode. Until your cookie banner sends a consent signal, nothing is recorded (consent setup).
  • Logged-in preview. Squarespace may disable some injected scripts while you are logged in and editing. Test in a private window.
  • Plan. Check that code injection is active on your plan.

What to Analyse

Squarespace sites tend to be portfolios, service businesses, restaurants, and small stores.

Site typeFirst questions
PortfolioDo visitors open projects? Do they reach your contact details?
ServicesIs the booking or enquiry button seen on mobile? Where do visitors stop on the services page?
Restaurant or venueDo visitors find hours, location, and the reservation link quickly?
StoreWhere do shoppers leave between product and checkout?
BlogHow far do readers scroll? Do they click to another post?

A practical first hour:

  1. Mobile [scroll heatmap](/docs/scroll-heatmaps) of the homepage. Squarespace templates often open with a tall image. See how many visitors get past it.
  2. [Click heatmap](/docs/click-heatmaps). Is the main button the most clicked item? What are the dead clicks?
  3. Ten recordings of visitors who left without contacting you.
  4. A goal for your enquiry form or booking, using the confirmation page or an event (goals).

For low-traffic sites, lean on recordings more than percentages (low-traffic analytics).

Squarespace-Specific Notes

  • Image-heavy templates. Large photographs slow mobile loading. Check real-user load times, and consider smaller images at the top of the page.
  • Galleries and lightboxes. Check that tapping a gallery image does what visitors expect. Dead clicks on images are common.
  • Embedded blocks. Scheduling tools, maps, and video players in iframes show as empty boxes in recordings (capture limits).
  • Form submissions. Squarespace forms show an inline confirmation by default. Redirect to a thank-you page to count submissions by URL.
  • Checkout. Squarespace's commerce checkout is hosted by Squarespace, and injected code may not run there. Track up to the cart and use the order confirmation where code is permitted.
  • Mobile menu. Check how many phone visitors open the menu, and what they choose (mobile menus).
  • Animations. Templates with fade-in effects can show blank sections in replay. The capture is fine; the animation is held at its start during playback.

Look at how many visitors scroll past your first image

On many templates the opening image fills the whole phone screen, and a large share of visitors never see anything else.

Key Takeaways

  • Paste the tag into header code injection.
  • Confirm your plan includes code injection.
  • Test in a private window, logged out.
  • Start with the mobile scroll heatmap of your homepage.

Conclusion

Squarespace sites are built to look good. A few recordings will tell you whether they also lead visitors to get in touch.
